EVENT: Teen Tech Week March 4-10, 2012
Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by YALSA , the Young Adult Library Services Association, and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libra
ries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames.
Teen Tech Week began in 2007 and has a general theme of Get Connected @ your library. Each year it has a different theme, and each year thousands of libraries around the country hold events that encourage teens to come in and utilize the library’s resources, and to learn the critical thinking skills and technical expertise to use the Internet and other electronic resources effectively.
This year the theme of TTW is “Geek Out At Your Library” Visit the TeenTechWeek Ning Site to register, and get more information about what’s happening at your local library.
And if you can’t get off your duff for this year (or if you are for some reason super super busy), then put these dates in your electronic calendar for the next couple of years. (and if you don’t have an electronic calendar, well, you need Teen Tech Week more than ever!)
