session: Safety First: What Every Kid (and Parent) Needs to Know About Internet Security, Saturday 6/30, 9:30 am
What are you going to be speaking about at the conference?
To teach families that all of us have our identities running around naked and doing crazy things for and against us online. How to reign in those naked identities so you can have fun AND be safe online!
What do you see as the greatest promise/opportunity for young teens/digital natives today?
You can be in touch with global information, amazing ideas and people in all geographies in an instant. Use it to do the most good you can!
What’s the biggest problem that you see with digital culture/technology?
Too much information to digest AND staying online too many hours with the goal of “staying connected”. I see a real danger in people forgetting to connect in person in the physical world. One of my internet safety classes with middle school kids did a great skit that showed someone’s personal life dying while they spent time online “connecting”.
Which websites or blogs do you read everyday?
They all have great information, and let us know the latest threats coming our way on the digital front. They don’t push products, just awareness and solutions.
What’s next for you after Digital Family Summit?
I will be on tour promoting my new book, Protecting Your Internet Identity: Are You Naked Online? and taking care of our clients and their security needs. We have also launched two new services that help consumers and businesses: (1) a safer social media campaign approach and (2) internet safety parties – you bring your employees or a set of friends / family and all your digital devices and while we have a good time together IN PERSON we will help you set up all your browsers, devices, and accounts with privacy and security settings.
