PROFILE: Derek Low & BRAD (Berkeley Ridiculously Automated Dorm)
Berkeley College Freshman Derek Low is a decided to make his dorm room as automated as possible, with pretty hilarious and amazing results. He’s got automated drapes, an automated romantic mode, and an automated “Emergency party mode.” He’s also got voice control, an app, and a fog machine.
Derek grew up in Singapore, and has apparently lived quite an exciting life. He blogs about his travels all over the world (and he claims to have freeloaded internet bandwidth from dozens of people in countries around the world.
Derek is now at Berkeley studying computer science and other stuff , and of course continuing his work of creating projects that don’t make any sense, but are cool to do. Or as his blog/log of experiments states,
“Lab@Home has grown into a full-time hobby which I dedicate myself to showcase what one is able to achieve with science and technology in the comfort of your home. And that nothing should interfere with your education – including statutory laws and parents.”
