PROFILE: Curt Hogg, Teen sports journalist
Curt Hogg is a 16 year old junior in high school that has a passion for sports writing. Curt is a Milwaukee Brewers fan, and has his own blog (Plushdamentals) on their network . His blog is rated as one of the Top 100 blogs on MLB.com
Curt started writing for Bleacher Report in the seventh grade, and has continued to work and grow his blog and writing since then. He is the editor-in chief of his school paper, writes his own 4 page sports newspaper (called “The Cheesehead”, it has a circulation of approximately 50 copies and covers Wisconsin sports) and he has a nearly 4.0 grade point average. As well, he self-reports that he can run a mile in under 5 minutes. Which is not too shabby.
In February of this year, Curt became the top teen sports journalist in the country when he managed to scoop ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Fox Sport, and every other sports reporting service about a story regarding Milwaukee Brewer’s star Curt Braun. 10 days before anyone else had the information, Curt reported on his blog that the urine test was mishandled. Here’s USA-Today acknowledging the scoop:
Everyone in the news business has to live with getting scooped. But it turns out that a 16-year-old blogger not only beat all the seasoned veterans on the Ryan Braun story, but did so by more than a week.
Many other newspapers and sports networks picked up on the scoop as well, and for a brief moment, Curt was a media star in his own right.
